The journey gradually ascends from the tropical region of Southern Yunnan at 800 meters to the high-altitude areas of the Pamir Plateau. From the Southern Yunnan Border Crossing to the China-Kyrgyzstan Border
Your journey begins by completing entry procedures at the Mohan Port. You'll then head west all the way to the Kyrgyzstan border, traversing China from its southwestern to its northwestern frontier. This border-to-border ride, spanning more than half of the country, will unlock unique border landscapes and experiences, leaving you with a profound sense of accomplishment.

Days 1-3: Southern Yunnan to Western Yunnan, Transition from Tropical to Plateau

Day 1 | Mohan Port → Pu'er (180 km)
First, complete your entry and border inspection procedures at Mohan Port, then begin your ride. You'll journey through the tropical landscapes of Southern Yunnan, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. With smooth road conditions, you'll easily adapt to the riding pace before arriving in Pu'er.
Day 2 | Pu'er → Dali (460 km)
Today's ride primarily covers long-distance mountain roads, offering scenic views of Central Yunnan where villages and mountains blend seamlessly. Despite some undulations, the road conditions are generally smooth. After a long ride, you'll arrive in Dali, where you can explore this renowned historical and cultural city and enjoy a night tour of its ancient town.
Day 3 | Dali → Shangri-La (320 km)
Today, you officially enter the plateau region. The ride takes you through high mountain gorges, with the scenery gradually transitioning from the pastoral landscapes of Western Yunnan to the majestic vistas of the plateau. Accompanied by blue skies, white clouds, and green mountains, the altitude will steadily increase, allowing you to gradually adapt to the plateau riding environment before successfully arriving in Shangri-La.
Days 4-7: Deep into the Plateau, Tibetan Scenery and Hardcore Challenges
Day 4 | Shangri-La → Naiganni Town (370 km)
Today, you'll journey deep into the heart of the plateau, where you'll encounter snow-capped mountains and remote Tibetan villages. As you enter this less-traveled plateau region, the road conditions become slightly more complex. Immerse yourself in the pristine plateau scenery of Tibet and experience a unique and tranquil ride.
Day 5 | Naiganni Town → Derge (440 km)
Today's ride weaves between deep valleys and high mountain passes, with alternating ascents and descents that will test your riding skills. Along the way, you'll fully appreciate the magnificent scenery of the plateau gorges. The journey concludes in Derge, an important center for Tibetan culture and home to the famous Derge Printing House.
Day 6 | Derge → Yushu (300 km)
Bidding farewell to the gorges, you'll drive into the vast grasslands of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where the view dramatically opens up. The endless grasslands, set against the backdrop of distant snow-capped mountains, create a picturesque scene. With moderate riding difficulty, you'll easily reach Yushu, an important city on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, for resupply and rest.
Day 7 | Yushu → Golmud (715 km)
This is the most challenging day of the route, requiring you to prepare food and spare fuel in advance. The journey takes you through uninhabited sections, where the desolate landscape conceals breathtaking plateau wilderness scenery. After a long and arduous ride, you'll arrive in Golmud, filled with a profound sense of accomplishment.
Days 8-12: Northwestern Desert, Silk Road Culture and Gobi Riding
Day 7 | Golmud → Heidushan (360 km)
Transitioning from the plateau to the northwestern desert, the journey reveals vast desert landscapes. The terrain and climate change noticeably, with yellow sand and Gobi desert interweaving, and the road stretching straight into the distance. Immerse yourself in the vastness and grandeur of the northwestern desert.
Day 9 | Heidushan → Dunhuang (240 km)
Today, we officially enter the cultural region of the Silk Road. The desert scenery along the way remains captivating, and the riding difficulty is relatively low. After a short ride, we arrive in Dunhuang, this pearl city of the Silk Road, beginning our journey to explore Silk Road culture.
Day 10 | Dunhuang → Hami (390 km)
Ride along the classic desert highway, where the road is perfectly straight, flanked by endless Gobi desert on both sides. The sky and land are vast, and the scenery is magnificent. Experience the extreme openness of the northwestern Gobi throughout the journey, arriving smoothly in Hami to experience the unique charm of the Western Regions.
Day 11 | Hami → Shanshan (380 km)
Ride along the edge of the Turpan Basin, where the journey features typical arid desert landscapes with expansive views. Although the climate is dry, the road conditions are good. Enjoy the unique terrain of the northwestern arid region along the way, arriving in Shanshan for a rest.
Day 12 | Shanshan → Urumqi (270 km)
After several days of riding through deserts and Gobi, we arrive at Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang. This is an important resupply point where you can rest your vehicle and replenish supplies. Experience Urumqi's urban charm and Western Regions cuisine, and recharge for the journey ahead.
Days 13-16: Exploring the Tianshan Mountains, from Canyon Scenery to the Border City of the Western Regions
Day 13 | Urumqi → Dushanzi (260 km)
Departing from the city, we enter mountainous routes, gradually approaching the Tianshan mountain range. The scenery along the way transitions from urban landscapes to mountain canyon views, and road conditions become more varied, preparing us for the Duku Highway crossing. Arrive in Dushanzi.
Day 14 | Dushanzi → Kuche (580 km)
Experience the core of the Duku Highway's canyon section, riding through the Tianshan canyons. Flanked by steep canyon rock walls and lush mountain vegetation, the scenery is magnificent, unique, and rugged, and road conditions are extremely challenging. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty and awe-inspiring grandeur of the Duku Highway.
Day 15 | Kuche → Aksu (260 km)
Today is a relatively relaxed riding day. Along the way, you'll see the distinctive oasis cityscapes of Xinjiang and experience the rich Uyghur culture. The road conditions are smooth, and the riding difficulty is low. After arriving in Aksu, take ample rest to prepare for the final leg of the journey.
Day 16 | Aksu → Kashgar (470 km)
Travel through the plateaus and oases of western Xinjiang, enjoying the unique scenery of the northwestern frontier along the way. After riding, we arrive at the legendary Silk Road city of Kashgar. This border city, full of Western Regions charm, is a significant highlight of this trip.
Day 17: Summit of the Pamirs, Arrive at the China-Kyrgyzstan Border
Day 17 | Kashgar → Kyrgyzstan Border (230 km)
Departing from Kashgar, we travel through the Pamir Plateau region. The journey offers breathtaking scenery of interwoven plateau snow mountains and meadows, with a gradual increase in altitude. Experience the grandeur of the Pamir Plateau, finally arriving at the China-Kyrgyzstan border, successfully concluding our 17-day cross-country journey.
