Itinerary Highlights Explained

In-depth Journey through the Hidden Realms of Western Sichuan

This journey blends the most exquisite snow-capped mountains and grasslands of Western Sichuan with the pristine landscapes of northwestern Yunnan. It takes you from the highest peaks of Mount Siguniang and Yala Snow Mountain, to the Tibetan villages and pastoral songs of Tagong Grassland, and further into the hidden realms of Shangri-La, which many other routes to Tibet rarely reach. This is not merely a collection of natural wonders, but a cultural corridor deeply interwoven with Tibetan culture and the diverse customs of multiple ethnic groups.

Conquering the Wonders of the Sky Road

This period marks a 'rite of passage' for travelers. From the twilight ascent to Litang, the highest city in the world, to challenging the breathtaking 72 hairpin bends of Nujiang River, every kilometer is a test of both vehicle performance and driving determination. The moment you cross the Jinsha River Bridge signifies a transformation, bestowing a sacred 'entry into Tibet ritual'.

Pilgrimage to the Glaciers and Forests of Eastern Tibet

Bid farewell to the desolate stereotype of the plateau and enter the dry landscape belt of Eastern Tibet. Here, you can witness the serene blue Ranwu Lake alongside the massive Midui Glacier, and experience the lush, sky-covering greenery of Lulang Forest. This unique terrain, where glaciers, lakes, and primeval forests coexist, reveals Tibet's gentlest and most vibrant side.

Fulfilling the Dream in the Holy City of Lhasa

The journey culminates at its destination. First, experience the tranquility of Basum Tso, a jade-like sacred lake nestled deep within the primeval forest, and then follow the Lhasa River to reach the final destination of this trip — Lhasa. Beneath the red and gold rooftops of the Potala Palace and the Great Monastery, feel the power of millennia-old faith, bringing a perfect conclusion to a meandering journey of over 3,500 kilometers.

Tour Itinerary

Days 1-3: Depart for the secret realm of western Sichuan and Kham

Day 1|Arrive in Chengdu (assembly day)
The whole day is assembly time. You can go to Wuhou Temple to experience the culture of the Three Kingdoms, or have a bowl of tea in Kuanzhai Alley. It is recommended to try authentic Chengdu hot pot for dinner, but avoid being too greedy for spicy food to maintain the best gastrointestinal condition for the plateau trip the next day. Carefully check the vehicle condition and outdoor equipment that night, go to bed early, and be ready to go.

Day 2|Chengdu → Kangding (330km / 6.5h)
Starting from the Chengdu Plain, head west along the Yakang Expressway, gradually rising in altitude, and officially entering the Western Sichuan Plateau. In the evening, we arrived at Kangding, the "hometown of love songs" and the gateway to Kham. As the temperature cooled down slightly, the magnificent journey of the motorcycle team officially kicked off.

Day 3|Kangding → Cuopugou (390km/7h)
Climb Zheduo Mountain (the first pass of Kham) at an altitude of 4,298 meters, walk through Xindu Bridge, the "Photographer's Paradise", and enjoy the pastoral songs of changing light and shadow along the way. Continue westward across Litang along G318, and arrive at Cuopugou, known as the "Secret Wonderland of Western Sichuan" in the evening, where you can quietly enjoy the beautiful picture of alpine Haizi intertwined with virgin forests.

Days 4-6: Crossing natural dangers and eastern Tibet glaciers

Day 4|Cuopugou → Mangkang/Rumei Town (200km/4.5h)
In the morning, take an in-depth tour of Cuopu Valley and watch the green lake water shining in the sun. In the afternoon, drive westward and cross the Jinsha River Bridge - when the wheels pass through the center line of the bridge, the mobile phone signal will prompt "Tibet welcomes you" on time. In this way, the sense of ritual of driving into Tibet is irreplaceable! In the evening, we arrived at Rumei Town, a relatively low altitude, to check in, and fell asleep peacefully with the endless flow of the Lancang River outside the window.

Day 5 | Mangkang/Rumei → Basu (290km/6h)
Today we crossed the first pass on this trip with an altitude of more than 5,000 meters - Dongda Mountain (5130m). The next highlight is to challenge the famous Nujiang 72 Turn . In the continuous hairpin turns, the altitude drops from 4,600 meters to 2,800 meters. This is the ultimate test of vehicle braking and driving skills. Then we crossed the steep Nujiang Bridge and stayed in eight nights smoothly.

Day 6 | Basu → Bomi (220km / 4.5h)
Say goodbye to the desolate canyon and enter the moist land of eastern Tibet. The mirror-quiet Ranwu Lake comes into view, with the holy snow-capped mountains reflected on the lake. Then go to Midui Glacier to observe up close the magnificent spectacle of huge ice tongues pouring down from the virgin forest. In the afternoon, we will meander through the dense virgin forests of Bomi, breathe high concentrations of negative oxygen ions on a bicycle, and enjoy the most pleasant riding time.

Days 7-10: Pilgrimage to the Landscape Promenade and the Holy City

Day 7 | Bomi → Linzhi (290km/6h)
The once feared "Tongmai Natural Danger" has now turned into a thoroughfare, and the convoy drove smoothly across the spectacular Tongmai Bridge. At noon, taste the famous stone pot chicken in Lulang, and then shuttle through the lush forest sea of Lulang like an oil painting. Climbing the Sejila Pass at an altitude of 4,728 meters, if you are lucky enough, you can see the true appearance of Namjagbarwa Peak, known as the "Shameful Girl Peak" . Arrive in Linzhi, an important town in "Jiangnan, Tibet" in the evening.

Day 8 | Linzhi → Lhasa (360km/4h)
In the early morning, go to Basongcuo, the holy lake of the Red Sect, and visit the quiet and sacred Cuozong Gongba Temple on the island in the middle of the lake. Then drive onto the Linla Highway (or parallel national highway), known as one of the most beautiful roads in the country, and ride along the green Niyang River and Lhasa River. When the majestic appearance of the Potala Palace slowly appeared on the distant horizon, the goal of this long journey to Tibet was successfully completed!

Day 9|Lhasa City (Rest and Tour)
In the morning, pay homage to the magnificent Potala Palace; in the afternoon, go to the Jokhang Temple and feel the depth of faith in front of the 12-year-old life-size statue of Sakyamuni. In the evening, "get lost" in the market of Barkhor Street and walk along the flow of people passing by; or sit on the sofa by the Maggie Ami window, drink a cup of authentic Tibetan sweet tea, and quietly reminisce about the journey. The thrill of driving.

Day 10|End of the trip
According to the flight or train time, a special car will be arranged to take you to Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station. With rich photography works and a soul baptized by pure faith, we bid farewell to the snowy plateau and successfully ended this unforgettable adventure journey of more than 2,000 kilometers.
